The piece is composed of home videos filmed by my father. As the youngest child in the entire family, I was told that I was the centre of attention. However, after looking into the videos, I saw that all my family members wanted attention in some way or form ...
Whether that was wanting to be filmed, wanting the person to be filmed to look, yelling for attention, etc. In the compilation, there is an increasingly progressive need for me to be filmed. As the editor today, I explicitly give myself the most screen time. As narcissism as my main theme, I also wanted to show how my childhood and technology played a part in my development and who I am today. Some segments taken in these clips are from a trip that we took to British Columbia (since I am originally from Toronto), however now I am studying in British Columbia, even though I have no recollection of these memories. To depict this, I added teletext subtitles, which create a nostalgic factor since I remember seeing this kind of text as a child.
